Chili is one of those dishes that can have completely different meanings to different people.  White Chicken Chili, Veggie Chili, Turkey Chili, Three Bean Chili…whatever you call it chili is a perfect fall treat and an all time comfort food. It compliments hot dogs and pairs with Charleston’s famous oyster roasts, Chili has something to offer everyone.

Our beloved Chef John Zucker prefers his chili without beans and rates it as his number one topping for hot dogs. He says he has a soft spot for, “good, snappy hot dogs with greasy chili, cheddar cheese and onions.”

Chef Zucker’s favorite chili usually begins with basics like the following, then he will adjust to his taste.

3 pounds ground beef
4 cloves garlic, chopped
1/2 Bottle of Dark Beer
1 – 8-ounce can tomato sauce
1 – 8oz can whole or chopped tomatoes
1- Onion Chopped, Medium
3 tablespoons chili powder
2 teaspoon ground cumin
1 teaspoon ground oregano
1 teaspoon salt (to taste)
1 teaspoon Black Pepper
1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
*Shredded Cheddar, for serving
*Chopped onions, for serving

Best part of making chili? Its all thrown together in one big pot!
